Twentythree Blue Blocks

Literally twentythree blue blocks. Mouseover a block to make it spin. It is easy to lose track of time on this page, sometimes that is worthwhile on its own. Written in html and css with no javascript. Previously this page used javascript to persist the spinning blocks after the mouseover, but I became interested in a no-js implementation. Let me know if you have any good ideas to improve this page without using javascript....

In 2016 I decided to go all in on my plan to pursue a career change. I left my job in industrial water treatment and attended a coding bootcamp. I used to arrive early in the morning before anyone would show up and work on this game. Eventually I abandonded this game and instead put my effort toward gainful employment at Flickr where I worked for four years. In the back of my mind I’m always considering rewriting this game as a native mobile app....

Blind Chess Game

If there was one idea that got me into programming it was Blind Chess. It simply could not be played without a computer. It’s chess but each piece has a limited visibility based on proximity and capability. For example a rook can see adjacent squares and along a straight line until the view is blocked. I tested the concept for Blind Chess with my now wife using two chess boards in real life well before I ever put this idea online....
